During the 3rd edition of the World Cashew Conference in Singapore from 9 to 11 February 2017, the first book on women leaders and entrepreneurs in the cashew value chain was presented to the participants. This was an opportunity for the cashew industry to meet some of these women leaders whose success stories were told in the book. It was also an opportunity for women from various backgrounds (Ghana, Ivory Coast, India, Burkina Faso, Vietnam, Benin, USA) to hold their first "CasheWomen" meeting chaired by the Executive Director of ComCashew, Rita Weidinger.
This meeting enabled them to discuss issues such as the role of women in the cashew industry, the problems they face, how to encourage women to build knowledge and power. The meeting was also aimed at bringing all these women together under one roof in order to connect them and provide them with a platform for engaging with one another and sharing information and trade links, help each other, hence the idea of creating a whatsapp group at the end of the meeting. Which in return is growing on country wise women group who are working on meeting and profiling more women.
Members agreed to meet during the major cashew forums to review progress and discuss emerging challenges.
